It can be challenging to find strength and hope when facing a life-altering diagnosis. Last month, Olivia Newton-John sat down with the team at SurvivorNet to talk about her experience with stage 4 breast cancer, and about the ways she has found gratitude and hope through her journey of turning sickness into strength.
“I’ve adjusted to living with cancer, which I’m very lucky to say I’m able to do,” Newton-John said. “I’m doing really well.”
“This journey has increased my gratitude, really, because when you’ve had cancer a few times and don’t know the outcome, you’re grateful for the moments you’re having, or the days you’re having, or the hours you’re having. I think it’s also made me more accepting. I intend to live for a much longer time, even though [given the] diagnosis you could paint a pretty ugly picture. I’m painting a good one. I feel really good.”
I think many of us can empathize with this idea. We celebrate our good days and work hard to find light in the darkness. This empowers us to find strength on the harder days when we need it most.
