Masking Up For Omicron

Throughout the pandemic, we have learned to adjust our thinking each time the virus changes or our knowledge grows.  Omicron, the newest variant, is significantly more infectious than previous versions of the virus.  As such, we wanted to take a minute to check in about the newest guidelines.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that facemasks, along with other preventative measures like hand washing, social distancing, and vaccination, can help slow the spread of COVID-19. This is why we launched The Mighty Well Mask in 2020.  While COVID-19 continues to evolve, so do the CDC standards for COVID-19 protection against the current dominant US variant- Omicron.

While N95, KN95, and KF94 respirators offer the highest level of protection to the wearer, Mighty Well’s Mighty Well Mask continues to offer critical and accessible protection.

Standard cloth masks aid in preventing the spread of large respiratory droplets such as nasal mucus and do not prevent the spread of small particle aerosols, as seen in the Omicron variant. The Mighty Well Masks stands above the rest, filtering 167% more aerosols than a standard cloth mask. Mighty Well uses rigorous testing to determine its filtration efficiency: AFNOR Spec S76-001.

Made from our battle-tested antimicrobial fabric technology that patients and caregivers love, the Mighty Well Mask is a reusable, everyday face mask made for the smallest errand to the biggest adventure. The Mighty Well Mask features an inner layer of bamboo carbon and silver ion yarns knitted together, providing antimicrobial properties.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests utilizing a mask that features a well-fitted nose “wire” to ensure increased protection. Unfortunately, most surgical masks out there are one-size-fits-all – leaving wearers with ill-fitted masks that allow airflow around the masks. The Mighty Well Mask features an adjustable nose clip to ensure maximum coverage with every wear.  For additional protection, you can use a surgical mask under your Mighty Well Mask, providing the increased filtration of the surgical mask and better fit of the Mighty Well Mask. More on the guidelines of double masking here.

Remember: In alignment with the CDC standard, your Mighty Well Mask should completely cover your nose, mouth, and chin to ensure that it fits snugly over your face with no gaps. The Mighty Well mask is offered in four sizes to ensure the best fit for your face- use Mighty Well’s guide to fitting the Mighty Well Mask, here, for increased protection.

The Mighty Well Mask features:

  • Antimicrobial yarn with silver-ion technology for life
  • Adjustable nose clip
  • Moisture-wicking and anti-odor fabric
  • Lightweight
  • Ultra-soft earloops for all-day comfort
  • Water-repellent up to 20 washes

“Mighty Well’s Mask provides long-lasting comfort and fit, from the soft ear loops to the adjustable nose clip that never pinches or rubs the skin.  Its lightweight, anti-microbial, moisture-wicking fabric enables me to wear it all day without any skin irritation.  As a nurse, these important qualities make the Mighty Well Mask my first choice,” said Karlene Cruz, RN, BSN.
