Meet Mighty Model, Kate Alexander: Dog Lover, Passionate Self-Advocate, and Lyme & CVID Patient

Patient needs and perspectives influence every step of the Mighty Well process, from our product brainstorms all the way through our photoshoots. So when you see a photo featuring a Mighty Well product, it’s being modeled by someone who needs it.

This month, we are excited to celebrate Mighty Model Kate Alexander, a powerful self-advocate fighting Lyme and CVID.

Here are a few highlights from our interview with Kate…

“After being sick and in declining health for five years and seeing over a dozen doctors, I was finally able to get in with a specialist who confirmed what I knew all along…”

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a translations project manager and I live in Connecticut. I just got married this summer to my partner of almost 10 years and we have 2 Basenjis, Sophie and Luca. I love history, art history, reading, and hanging out with my very large family. I’m going back to school to become a PA.

What is your illness? When did you find out?

I have Lyme Disease (most likely chronic) and CVID. After being sick and in declining health for five or so years and seeing over a dozen doctors, I was finally able to get in with a Lyme specialist and he confirmed what I knew all along; that I had a severe case of Lyme disease.

Do you think your experience with illness has given you strength? How?

It has given me strength because I had to be my own advocate, doing my research and attempting to treat myself when nobody would listen to me. It has also made me a much more effective communicator and allowed me to be able to stand up for myself in ways I would not have done before.

What was it like to model for Mighty Well?

Being a model for Mighty Well was such a gift; I’ve made new friends and it’s gratifying to be able to showcase a product that an everyday person can use/wear with confidence and style during what is usually a very difficult time in their lives. I’m a very shy, private person and being offered this opportunity allowed me to move outside my comfort zone and grow!
